Benefits of Joining EMSAT

The best way to describe the benefits of membership is to reflect on some of EMSAT's accomplishments.

• When a large number of EMS personnel who answered a survey conducted by EMSAT said that there should be an EMS License Plate for EMS professionals, EMSAT worked with legislators to make that happen.

• EMSAT successfully fought to reduce the proposed increased certification fees for EMS personnel.

• EMSAT was the first EMS group to testify against the abolishment of the Bureau of Emergency Management.

• EMSAT took action to kill the legislation which would have required EMS personnel to draw blood at scenes involving possible DWI cases.

• EMSAT supported the inclusion of EMS personnel in the Star of Texas Awards legislation. This award would go to peace officers, firefighters, and emergency medical first responder personnel who are killed or sustain serious or fatal injuries in the line of duty.

• EMSAT establishes relationships with other associations and groups to collaborate on issues that impact emergency medical services professionals.

• EMSAT offers continuing education courses for members and others periodically to address identified areas of need.

• Beginning January 2004, EMSAT provides accidental death benefits to members at no additional cost to the individual member.
